Follows a visit of
the quaint Tartane fishing village and a possibility for some beach time. After, we’ll head to the north and arrive in the town of Sainte-Marie, where we will discover the Ilet Sainte-Marie island connected to the mainland by a seasonal sandbank called a “tombolo” (accessible from January to April approximately). When the island is not accessible, we’ll visit instead the Morne des Esses wickerwork center, where the local artisans sustain the ancient Amerindian art of basket weaving. This is the only place on the island where the tradition is still kept alive. You can participate in a weaving workshop, check-out an exhibition and of course purchase wickerwork objects such as jewellery, decoration, baskets etc…We’ll finish visit with the must-see site of Sainte-Marie, the Saint-James distillery, set in a beautiful creole villa.
